Is there anything that says “Winter!” more than a sweater dress? We think not. A sweater dress is such a winter classic, and when you pair it with knee high boots, it’s such a darling look. A sweater dress is a simple, classic way to keep warm while looking cute and feminine.
Can you tell we love sweater dresses? 🙂
Of course, not all sweater dresses are created equal, and not all of them will flatter all figures. In most cases, you will need to try on several styles to determine what looks best on you. However, these general tips should help:
- Unless you’re very thin, go with a mid-weight fabric. A very thin fabric will cling to your curves, which might be a great, or a not-so-great thing, depending on what you’re looking for. A heavy fabric might add unnecessary bulk.
- A slight A-line is the most flattering. But again, this depends on your own shape and personal preferences. No doubt, the huge success of the TV show “Mad Men” has inspired designers to create form-fitting dresses this year, and perhaps it has also inspired women to actually wear these dresses. You should definitely try the dress on and see for yourself how it makes you feel.
- The perfect fit is important. Sweater dresses are not as forgiving as more tailored clothing items, so it’s very important to make sure the fit is just right – not too snug nor too baggy. Quality is a big factor too – you don’t want a flimsy, poorly constructed piece.
- Versatility is key. While sweater dresses are generally appropriate for daytime wear, paired with knee high boots or with leggings and chunky heels, a classic sweater dress can go from day to night if you add evening shoes and bag and some jewelry.
Here are a few sweater dresses we love this season:
