Makeup was designed to enhance a woman’s look. The idea is to camouflage or blend away imperfections while enhancing your best features. But makeup can easily backfire and make you look worse – just think of a little girl using her mom’s makeup and you’ll know what I mean!
The following are three major makeup DONTS:
1. Using too much makeup. This is a MAJOR mistake. Too much makeup will make you look older. It creates the exact opposite of looking fresh and young – and in many cases simply looks ridiculous. In fact, if you’re not careful, you could end up looking like that child who has sneaked into her mom’s makeup drawer! (Or even worse, like a clown).
When you apply makeup, remember that less is more. Apply anything you use sparingly – you can always add more later, but start with just a little bit. And if you do go heavy on the makeup in one area (say, your eyes), remember to balance it out by using very little in another area (such as your lips).
2. Wearing the wrong shade of foundation. This will make you look as if you’re wearing a mask – especially if the makeup is too dark and if you don’t blend the edges. Your foundation needs to match your natural skin tone as closely as possible. Wearing the wrong shade of eye shadow, blush and lipstick can also be very unflattering – especially if you wear warm shades on a cool skin tone, or vice versa.
3. Lining your lips with a color darker than your lipstick. This is a bad, bad look. It looks as if you outlined a picture, then forgot to color it in. It just looks wrong! Make sure the color of your lip liner matches the color of your lipstick, use a nude lip liner, or don’t use a lip liner at all.
Next week’s blog post will feature three more makeup mistakes. Stay tuned!
