Fashion Insider Tips: Our Favorite Stores

Where to shop

We are often asked, “So, where do you shop?” The answer isn’t straightforward. We shop in many different places, some discount and some full price. When we shop full-price designer boutiques or department stores, we do try to wait for a sale. And there are some basic items that we love buying at Target and Walmart.

Here’s a list of some of our favorite stores:

This is, by far, our favorite place to shop for discount designer items. Many of the items are not “last season,” and even for those that are, we don’t mind – we enjoy buying classic items and don’t really care too much for “hot trends,” so buying the current season’s items isn’t a huge priority. Right now in our shopping cart: this beautiful BCBG Max Azria black jersey twist front chain link tank. The perfect party top!

2. Bloomingdale’s

We love this store, even if we don’t love its prices. Yes, here you will pay a large markup on items, unless you buy on sale, which is why we pretty much insist on waiting for sales. The only downside of waiting for a sale is that sometimes the store will run out of that one item that you fell in love with, or it will not be available in your size. But in our experience, if you shop at the beginning of a sale, you will usually have plenty of items to choose from. Right now we’re loving this Lauren by Ralph Lauren cardigan. It’s such a versatile piece, and at a sale price of about $130 (down from $249), we consider it a great buy.

3. Old Navy

Old Navy is great for basic pieces. Quality is good, the clothes wash well and do not lose their shape, and prices are very affordable – actually cheap when you buy on sale. This basic sweater dress, for example, is really cute and will look great with leggings and boots. At just $27, it’s very affordable, too.

4. Shoes: Zappos, of course!

Zappos is a smart company. It has built an amazing reputation based on its stellar customer service, and things seem to have stayed the same even after Amazon had bought it. Prices at Zappos are not necessarily the cheapest – there seems to be a markup and you can sometimes get the same shoes for a few dollars less at another store – but this retailer’s great customer service wins us over every single time. Right now, we’re loving the Missmadison heels by Stuart Weitzman. A beautiful classic, and at $172 (down from the original price of $335) they’re quite a bargain for such high-quality shoes.

5. Walmart

Walmart is a great place to buy basic items such as tees and tanks. The quality is not amazing, so don’t expect these to last years, but at these prices, who cares. Example? Sure. At $12 for a 3-pack, these basic tanks are an incredible buy.

These are just a few of the stores we like to shop at. Where do YOU like to shop?
